Hawaii after the storm

Donation appeal – Spendenaufruf

Homeless People Deserve More Than Homelessness

Hawaii was overwhelmed by several severe storms just a month ago. It has never rained this hard in Hawaii’s history, and the islands are nearly completely flooded. The rivers have overflowed their banks. Massive floods, landslides, houses like toys—anything not firmly anchored—was swept away by the floodwaters.

Again, Hawaii has faced hard times after the Lahaina wildfire on Maui. Among others, the many Indigenous Hawaiians, who had almost nothing before the storm and were already homeless, have been hit extremely hard. They have lost their last possessions, such as tent canvases, clothing, and the like, in the storm. They are faced with bare nothing.

The Hawai‘i Community Foundation has asked me, like many others, for support. Therefore, I would like to ask all of you for donations to help those in need.

Please donate directly to the Hawai‘i Community Foundation so the funds reach the affected people immediately to help them survive.

Mahalo Nui — thank you very much for your donation and support.

Aloha Gerard,

One month after severe storms and flooding, families across Hawai‘i are facing a choice no one should have to make: stay and try to rebuild or leave the community they have always called home.

The storms devastated homes and businesses across the islands. State funding is coming, but it will take time to arrive, and it will not cover everything. Right now, families are making decisions, whether to pay for temporary housing while repairs begin, whether to reopen a small business or walk away from it entirely.

Your gift reaches families before state funds do.Through the Stronger Hawai‘i Fund, the Hawai‘i Community Foundation is getting resources directly to families today, so they can stay, repair, and rebuild at home. Because of supporters like you, families have a real choice. Give now to help Hawai‘i’s families stay together and rebuild.

Mahalo for your support of Hawai’i,

Terry George
CEO & President
Hawai‘i Community Foundation
